U.S. Sustainable Winegrowing Multi-State Grant Projects (including U.S. Sustainable Winegrowing Summit)

Here is a summary of creative and communications-oriented projects I worked on related to a grant focused on developing a shared definition of what sustainable winegrowing is across the nation. CSWA partnered with sustainability associations in Oregon, California, Washington and New York however I created all of the branding and communications outlined below. Visual samples will follow.

  • A logo

  • A website I designed and developed on the Wix platform. Shown at top of the page or here.

  • A printed brochure

  • All design and communications for a 2021 U.S. Sustainable Winegrowing Summit (held virtually) with over 450 attendees from over 16 countries, and the ways I supported the 2024 hybrid Summit.

  • An animated explainer video on the shared definition of sustainable winegrowing and more!

Logo Development

Part of the grant project entailed the development of an all new website and printable brochure and we wanted a logo to tie the communications together. We hired an external graphic design consultant who delivered several variations (shown below), however, none of these designs resonated with our team and we ultimately went with a version I created (shown above).

Printed Brochure

Click the image above to view a digital version of an 8-panel layout measuring (flat) 36" x 7" with an 8" x 7" tall folded size. The purpose of the brochure was to reflect the same content as the website in a printed format. You'll recognize similar design elements across the communication mediums.

2024 U.S. Sustainable Winegrowing Summit Design, Communications, Photography and Media Outreach

The 2024 U.S. Sustainable Winegrowing Summit was held April 30 - May 1, 2024 in-person in Lodi, California and streamed online. In addition to creating the same content as the 2021 Summit, I have supported the 2024 Summit with:

  • Developed a sponsor strategy including sponsor pitching, developing sponsorship tiers ($-amounts), benefits and managing sponsors. To date, we have raised over $48k in cash and secured three of the most prominent wine trade media outlets with over $50k in earned media support.

  • Liaised with the AV provider to provide hybrid support.

  • Served as the photographer across all events.

  • Managed registration and event ticketing via Eventbrite.

  • Developed all event signage.

  • Media outreach efforts.

  • Developed and managing all pre-and-post event communications including: event invitations, sponsor/attendee communications.

  • Designed a comprehensive event digital Summit Program and Summit Highlights recap.

  • Developed a short and catchy Summit recap video

Animated Explainer Video

Our team wanted to include an animated explainer video on the new (at the time) sustainablewinegrowing.us website. We hired a company specializing in animated explainer videos to fulfill this need. Although our directives were very clear and we included a detailed storyboard explaining the style of graphics we wanted (with specific examples), content we wanted and scripts with timelines showing which images and words we wanted in specific scenes — the animation company misinterpreted our directives and missed the mark at nearly every turn. The process necessitated innumerable revisions to arrive at the final video cut. Despite immense frustration, I absolutely loved putting together the storyboard and developing the script and associated imagery and look forward to moving through a similar process with a more professional animation company in the future.
